Laboratory
The laboratory at Pioneer Equine Hospital allows our veterinarians to obtain important information quickly to aid in accurate diagnosis and treatment of our patients. We perform complete blood counts, fibrinogen, electrolytes, and chemistry panels on-site. Microscopic examination of blood and fluid, culture and sensitivity of fluid samples, and fecal examinations can also be performed by our laboratory technician.
We also have the convenience of processing Interluekin-1 Receptor Antagonist Protein (IRAP) and Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) to enable a quick turn-around and implement therapy efficiently.
More intensive lab work, such as genetic tests for HYPP and HERDA, SHI testing for corynebacterium pseudotuberculosis (pigeon fever), EPM and other neurologic diseases, and Equine Infectious Anemia (Coggin's) tests are sent to outside labs. Results are generally obtained within a few days.
